Healthy Pizza Recipes

I admit it, I am a pizzaholic. I can eat pizza every day, at every meal, and even as a snack. Well, ok, maybe I will throw in a calzone recipe every once in a while, but you get my point. Due to my love of pizza and because of the frequency with which I eat it, it is essential for my waistline that my pizza recipes are healthy and I still want them to taste good.

Here are some ways you can make healthy pizzas:

Use light or low-fat cheeses

Measure the amount of cheese you use and then use a bit less

Use turkey bacon instead of big-fat greasy pork bacon

Use ground turkey rather then ground beef

Use more vegetables and less meat

Use diced tomatoes rather then canned tomato sauces to cut sodium

Use a little whole-wheat flour rather then bread flour

Use less olive oil and don’t use any in the dough

By considering these tips and maybe trying a few, you will increase the health factor of your pizzas. Making healthy pizzas will allow you to eat pizza every day, and that sounds good to me.

On Hand Pizza Sauce Recipes

The wonderful thing about cooking is the unlimited variety you can enjoy. A Google search for italian pizza sauce recipes currently turns up over two million result pages. Are there really two million ways to make pizza sauce?

As it turns out, there is a foundation to making pizza sauce. The more typical recipes use crushed tomatoes, tomato paste with herbs like garlic and basil. The specific amounts and ratios used determine the overall flavor, or the basic foundation of the sauce.

Other ingredients can be added to further deepen the flavor. Some add chili powders or flakes to make the sauce sing hot while others add brown sugar or honey. Some saute onions or even potato slices  and then add them (or just their juices.) Others add fennel and other fresh herbs and some flour to thicken the sauce. And of course, a little salt and pepper go a long way toward adjusting the taste to suit.

One exciting method I have seen recommended is what I call The Experiment. You take your leftover meats, cut them into small chunks or slices and cook them down so they are soft and dripping with juices. Add some fresh herbs that you might have along with a selection of whatever flaked and powdered herbs that you find in your cupboard. Add all this to the sauce and let it simmer to distribute the flavors.

Perhaps your first experiment will be a fabulous success that your family and friends insist that you keep making. Perhaps not – and if not, after tasting it you will have an idea about what more needs to be added or what you added too much of. It is usually best to add smaller amounts of something new and increase them over time to suit your taste.

The best thing about this is that every recipe you create will be yours and yours alone, limited only by the selection of ingredients you have on hand. Over time you will begin to understand that some ingredients work better with others and this may inspire other choices from your pantry or while you are in the grocery store. Once you have a crowd pleaser coming out of your oven, make sure to write the recipe down so you can repeat it.

It is worth noting that other things will affect the flavor of the pizza and how the sauce flavors work with it. You can choose different kinds of crusts and a wide variety of cheeses but also your oven and the heat used will influence the flavor. This is one reason why it is not always possible to replicate your favorite pizza sauce exactly.

And that is a good reason to sometimes let your favorite pizza place do the cooking for you. You just can’t get Fritz’s Pizza from anywhere else in the world.

In the mixture of the warm water the yeast should be dissolved. Salt, sugar, flour should be added in the bowl. The yeast solution along with the olive oil should be added with it. With the help of the fork blend it. When the stiffness of the dough increases the remaining flour should be added to it with the help of the hand. Leftover Pizza Recipes

Are looking for the quickest pizza recipe, the easiest pizza recipe, and the best tasting pizza recipe? Look no further then last night’s leftovers.

That’s right. Those containers of recently munched on Chinese food, that uneaten slab of beef those leftover stir fry veggies or the vodka sauce from last night’s pasta can all help you harness the power of the pizza gods and bestow upon you a terrific tasting, one of a kind pizza.

Not sold on using leftovers to make pizza? An added bonus of making “leftovers” pizza is that it simplifies the pizza making process; allowing pizza to take its rightful place as the mid-week, after work, after grad-school, after the gym dinner that it was intended to be.

Before you go all willy-nilly-mad-scientist on your pizza, you might consider the following:

Don’t overtop your pizza

Imagine, if you will, what the bottom of your oven will look like caked with pizza toppings. Or worse, how your pants or shirt will look stained with pizza sauce. Despite my personal beliefs, pizza stained clothes never impress or so I am told. So be sure to use an appropriate amount of toppings. And that goes for calzones too, which tend to leak if overstuffed.

Don’t mix flavors that taste bad together

Braunsweiger and peanut butter or how about sweet and sour chicken and refried beans? Unless you are under attack by mid-pregnancy flavor cravings,it’s better to stick with the flavor pairings that you already know and love.

Avoid wet soggy leftovers if possible

While this may seem like a no brainer, cold items can fool you. Even a mildly moist item may leak fluid when heated.

Experimenting with pizza toppings is always fun

It is always fun to experiment with pizza toppings to create new pizza recipes. Try changing your cheese combinations; who is up for an asiago/fontina blend over beef and broccoli leftovers? Maybe add a little cheddar, brie, or chabichou du poitou to your mozzarella topping to spice things up a bit.

Using leftovers on pizza can be a fun, fast, easy way to enjoy the original meal a second time, not to mention that it will free up room in the fridge. Who knows when you will create the ultimate pizza recipe that will transform pizza forever. Or most likely, you will just have a terrific pizza dinner and a wonderful pizza recipe.
